RULES

The current Magic: The Gathering rules are in use, with the following exceptions:

  • The official mulligan procedure is Paris
There is no free mulligan for having zero or seven lands ; You do not “Scry 1” after a mulligan.
  • The “mana burn” rule still exists
Each unused mana at the end of each phase (not step) does 1 damage to his owner as the mana pool is emptied.
  • Players lose the game when they have zero or less life only at the end of each phase. This state based action is the last thing happening before going to the next phase.
This rule allows playing “Mirror Universe” in its original spirit, so you can go down to zero during your upkeep, trade life totals, then your opponent dies at the end of the phase for being at zero.
  • The original Alpha ‘tapped blocker’ rule still exists
If a creature designated as a blocker in a combat phase becomes tapped, it will not do damage to the attacking creature.
For example, a blocking Mishra’s Factory will become 0/3 if tapped for activating his +1/+1 ability.
  • Continuous effects of artifacts are stopped if the artifact becomes tapped.
    Examples:
If “Winter Orb” is tapped during a player’s untap step, it has no effect and the player will untap all his lands, the “Winter Orb” and all his permanents together.
If “Howling Mine” is tapped at the beginning of the draw step, it has no effect, the player will not draw an additional card this turn.
If “Force field” is tapped, it can nevertheless be activated, it is not a continuous effect.
If “Dingus Egg” is tapped, whenever a land will go to the graveyard, “Dingus Egg” will nevertheless deal 2 damage to the land’s controller, because it’s a “triggered ability”.

Clarifications

MISCELLANEOUS CARDS ADJUSTMENTS

  • The original “Ante” Rule is strictly forbidden as it falls under Wagering under the Magic Infraction and Procedure Guide, for which the penalty is a disqualification.
  • There is no difference between “Interrupts” and “Instants”. All “Interrupts” are considered as “Instants”.

Cards have their current Oracle text, as found on http://gatherer.wizards.com/ with the following exceptions :

Chaos Orb

Card text
1, Tap: Choose a non-token permanent on the battlefield. If Chaos Orb is on the battlefield, flip Chaos Orb onto the battlefield from a height of at least one foot (30cm). If Chaos Orb turns over completely at least once during the flip, and lands resting on the chosen permanent, destroy that permanent. Then destroy Chaos Orb.

“touches the chosen permanent” indicates that Chaos Orb must touch the permanent “after landing and not moving anymore”

Touching the card while bouncing on it is not sufficient.

Sleeves counts as parts of the cards.

If for any reason, Chaos Orb is over the permanent (vertically), but without touching it, after stabilisation, the action will be considered as successful.

(For example a difference of level due to a playmat).

Clarifications

You can only flip Chaos Orb if it is on the battlefield when its ability resolves. If Boomerang is cast on the Orb in response, it will have no effect.
If you lose, Chaos Orb is nevertheless destroyed.
Chaos Orb doesn’t target.

Falling Star

Card text

Choose up to two different creatures.
For each chosen creature, flip Falling Star onto the battlefield from a height of at least one foot. If Falling Star turns over completely at least once during the flip, and lands resting on the chosen creature, Falling Star deals 3 damages to this creature.
Tap each creature that has been dealt damage this way.

“touches the chosen creature” indicates that Falling Star must touch the permanent “after landing and not moving anymore”

Touching the card while bouncing on it is not sufficient.

Sleeves counts as parts of the cards.

If for any reason, Falling Star is over the permanent (vertically), but without touching it, after stabilisation, the action will be considered as successful.

(For exemple a difference of level due to a playmat).

Precisions

If you choose two creatures, you have to do a flip for each of them separately.
If a win a flip, but the creature doesn’t receive damage, protected by a “Healing Salve” for example, this creature will not be tapped.
Falling Star doesn’t target.
